Golestan Palace is one of Iran's world works in the UNESCO heritage list, which is considered an ideal place for photography and capturing beautiful images thanks to its unique architecture and decorations. This valuable building was registered in the list of national works of Iran in 1334 and in the UNESCO world heritage list in 1392. In addition, the occurrence of important historical events in this place has turned it into a living document of Iran's history. This complex, which is considered one of Tehran's attractions, is located in the old part of the city and can be easily accessed by public transportation and be enchanted by all the beauty, history, architecture, culture and art of Iran.




Introduction of Golestan Palace

Golestan Palace includes a series of historical buildings in Tehran province that were built in different times. This palace is considered one of the most important historical buildings in the country in terms of its architecture and the value of its artistic and historical works, which witness the presence of domestic and foreign tourists throughout the year. The mentioned palace consists of different parts such as Marble Throne Porch, Hall of Salam, Hall of Mirrors, Dining Hall, Khlot Karimkhani, Berlian Hall, Badgir Mansion, Shams Al Amara Palace, Almas Hall and Abeyd Palace. The marble throne porch and the Karimkhani shrine, belonging to the Karimkhan Zand period, are the oldest buildings in the Golestan complex.


The cultural and historical complex of Golestan, apart from the buildings mentioned above, consists of various departments such as the manuscript library, visual documents center, manuscript center, technical office, international affairs, print library, cultural affairs, introduction affairs, child and adolescent unit, unit A legal office is formed.


There are many places of interest around Golestan Palace, including Tehran Bazaar, Haj Ali Darvish Coffee House, Sabzeh Maidan, Nasser Khosro St., Sarai Roshan, Marvi Alley and Darul Fanun.



The area of Golestan Palace

Golestan Palace is one of the most famous sights of the capital, which dates back decades before the Qajar era and contains more than 440 years of history. Currently, the area of Golestan Palace reaches 4.5 hectares, which is one-tenth of its original size. It was the residence of kings such as Agha Mohammad Khan, Fath Ali Shah, Naseruddin Shah, Muzaffaruddin Shah and Ahmad Shah Qajar.


Where is Golestan Palace?

Golestan Palace is located in Tehran, Panzdeh Khordad Street, Arg Square. Using the metro is the best way to reach Golestan Palace. For this purpose, you have to get off at Panzdeh Khordad station on metro line 1 and continue towards the east until you reach Panzeh Khordad Square (former Citadel Square) after about five minutes of walking. and go to the north side of this square through Davar Street, where the entrance to Golestan Palace is located.




History of Golestan Palace

According to the documents and the travelogue of Pietro Delawale, the history of Golestan Palace is attributed to the era of Shah Abbas Safavid. However, the most important historical period of this palace is related to the era of Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar. After defeating Lotf Ali Khan Zand, he was crowned in 1210 AH and chose Tehran as the capital, which gave double importance to the royal citadel of Golestan.


Naser al-Din Shah Qajar was also crowned in this palace and was the first king of Iran to travel to Europe. This caused Golestan Palace to undergo many changes under the influence of European architecture and take a different shape. During the Qajar era, this complex was used as a place for ruling and royal residence, as well as for the education of artists and architects, and therefore the aforementioned palace was considered an important center for art production in the 19th century.


During the rule of Muzaffaruddin Shah, Muhammad Ali Shah and Ahmad Shah Qajar, no special changes happened in this royal citadel; But the importance of this period is due to important historical events such as the constitutional revolution and its effects. Golestan Palace also saw changes during the Pahlavi I and Pahlavi II eras.
